Violated

So Mildred was Violated the other day. Someone came in through her roof and stole all of the copper tubes and wires for the aircon units. They also took all of the wires that run from the fuse box on the ground floor to the fuse box on the 2nd floor. So she hand no power on her top two floors. In the process the people tore apart one of the compressors for the aircon. So obviously this was greatly disturbing to Mildred along with us as her caretakers. Her power has been restored, and the aircon units should be repaired within the week. However this has of course shaken her confidence a bit, and will require some additional support. So we will be working with her to provide some added security. She should be back to normal in a week or two.

Termites

Termites love Mildred. Mildred is not too fond of them and has adverse reactions to them. The previous post was the falling of a beam because the termites had eaten through it. Mildred did not approve of being eaten and thus let us know. We where told that Mildred would need four of her old beams taken out. So we talked to the Lardlord, who does not value Mildred as much as we do, and he only removed the one that fell. Much to our and Mildred's dismay. But thus is life. At least Mildred no longer had holes in her.

Rachel's return

So Rachel has returned from a few weeks away from Mildred. Her first day back she was showing some people around, and pointing out all of the nifty aspects of Mildred. Rachel opens a door to show a bedroom that Mildred has and this is how Mildred greeted her. Thankfully no one was using this room at the time.

Flooding

For the Second time since we have been taking care of her, Mildred's plumbing backed up. The worst part about it is it happens to be in our kitchen. We talked to a plumber who said we will need to have Indah Water come and pump it out. So after Indah Water came they informed us that there is actually three different clogged places in the system. And the system is not made the way that it should be. Poor Mildred, it is not her fault. So after several phone calls by several people and a few hours of waiting and working She is going good again.

Spring clean

We had two teams (in addition to our normal group) one from Sabah, and one on their way around the world who helped us with our spring clean of Mildred. She looked and smelled better than she had in a long time.

Roof.

Mildred is old. And her construction is not the same as modern standards. A visiting team, that was very helpful, was staying there when one of the team members decided that Mildred's roof would be a great place to do their quiet time as the sun set. Not realizing that Mildred is fragile. So this volunteer fell through the roof down 20 feet, through the ceiling and ended up in the hallway on the 2nd floor. Surprisingly the volunteer suffered only bruises, and a couple cuts needing stitches. Mildred was worse off however; Her electric was cut, she had a large whole in her roof and ceiling, and she had a hallway full of rubble. So a temporary roof was fixed that night, and over the next few days the electricity was fixed partly then wholly, the roofers, electricians, and ceiling people all came and did their work on Mildred. Who now looks great.

Mildred

This is a blog about Mildred. Mildred is a colonial era building in Georgetown, Penang. She is situated on Love Lane. And at her peak was an awesome creation. Now she is old and tired, still working hard though. We have been with Mildred for almost two years. She has had many mishaps over these years and they continue to happen, so this is the story of these things. She has had her entire wiring redone, and many upgrades and face lifts. Her last profession was less then honorable. But now she is involved with feeding the homeless and poor. Enjoy being part of this journey with us.
